Ah, HA! Here's a good way to play that insane fill at the end of "The Grudge":

(Since it's divided into the grouping 4+3+3+4+3+3, it can be played this way; play the snare with the right hand, high tom with the left, low tom with the right. If you're left handed, reverse all this.)

Snare, High Tom, Low Tom, Left Kick, High Tom, Right Kick, Low Tom, Left Kick (that's 4), Snare, High Tom, Low Tom, Left Kick, High Tom, Right Kick (that's 3... repeat these three, then repeat all of it).

Another way to play the two threes is Snare, High Tom, Low Tom, High Tom, Kick, Kick (the second "three" can even go the other way, with the snare and low tom positions reversed; this is a popular fill).

A good way to warm up for this sticking is to practice playing alternating single stroke between your hands and feet, such as right hand, left foot, left hand, right foot, repeat.

If you carry on to www.morphusphotography.com, you can find plenty of photographs of Danny taken at his performance at a recent 2005 drummer festival. I'd post the exact link, but my browser decided to become dysfunctional and it doesn't want to paste anything.

Just proceed to the galleries --> musicians/events section. There's also a couple of APC photos on that site, but nothing new or catchy.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT [04 Oct 2005|12:45am]
[ mood | Wow. ]

Has anyone else listened to Adrian Belew's "Side One"?

Adrian Belew was the guitarist for King Crimson, and has played with plenty of other bands on over a hundred albums in the last 20 years (his discography page made my jaw drop).

Anyways, he's got this Three-CD series (Side One/Two/Three). Side One and Side Two are out already, Side Three is tentatively aimed for winter of this year.

Now, you may be asking, "What the fuck does this have to do with Danny Carey?". Everything.

The dream team working on these three albums is:
Adrian Belew - Guitar and Vocals
Danny Carey - Drums and Percussion
Les Claypool - Bass

I heard Ampersand, the first track off Side One, several months ago (there was an article about it in DRUM! magazine, with the tabs and an interview with The Great DC. However, i just now downloaded the full album, and let me tell you what. This is the shit.

Very largely instrumental, very experimental/odd. For the most part, it makes no sense, but its fucking amazing. And as far as the drums are concerned: WOW. I would argue that this stuff is better than anything we've heard from Danny Carey in his songs with Tool. Yes, even Ticks And Leeches. Its fucking ridiculous.

I would definitely reccomend this album to anyone with ears. I'm going to go out and buy it asap.

If you have yet to hear it, and would like to, feel free to AIM me for the album (or to talk about anything. I dont care). SN: TyTy of 3D

Yeah. Wow.

New Drums [29 Sep 2005|09:43pm]
[ mood | excited ]

First of all, I'd like to say hello to all fellow Danny Carey fans.

I was just informed by another Tool fan, and close friend, that there is some new information pertinent to Danny Carey and his fans on the Tool website. Apparently, he is using new electronic drum pads that are the best and most sensitive/responsive, developed with the aid of Danny Carey himself.

Here is the info, taken from www.toolband.comCollapse )

I'm definitely going to have these on my kit, once i'm ready to upgrade to a top-of-the-line drum set.

And i really can't wait to hear what Danny Carey does with this amazing equipment on the new album.

TOOL has done more for THELEMA than another certain band I shall not name.

Point in case:

TOOL doesn't suck.

I had to say it, the demon inside prompted me. No harm. No foul. Just sayin'.....

I just purchased "Third Eye Open" A string tribute to TooL"

It is an 11 song album completely composed of a section of stings. vilion, contrbass, cello...*scritch scritch* forgot the other two BUT ANYWAY
The music is okay, not the best orchestration, not the worst (they are playing tool you kow) and it's just something unique to hear songs like "sober", "schism" and "aenema" coming out of the speakers sounding alittle like an NPR broadcast...

If your a slight fanatic I'd check it out - plus, if Grandma doesn't like that "rock music" you can pop this in and have her niting away to TooL!
